YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROJECT         Young People

  • YEP delivers Youth Work sessions 4 nights per week to young people aged 13+ years living in Gleadless Valley and the surrounding area.
  • Much work involves raising the voice and influence of our young people to enable them to have a choice and say in the services, provision and activities that are available to them.
  • Provides an inclusive and accessible service for all young people.
  • Implements and delivers a wide and varied programme of activities.
  • Works with a number of other key partners and agencies to ensure best service is delivered.
  • Provides opportunities for young people and local residents/tenants to participate in training packages and gain qualifications in Youth Work. Recruits local people as Youth Workers.

VYPA

  • VYPAVYPA (Valley Young People’s Action) provides activities for children living in Gleadless Valley aged 8 – 13 years.
  • IT Tea Time homework club twice a week.
  • Junior Club once a week
  • Playschemes during school holidays x 4 days per week for 9/10 weeks per year.
  • Current provision reduced due to end of funding but hopeful that we will secure further funding to continue our service.
  • Trains and recruits local people to become playworkers and provides opportunities for these people to participate in vocational training packages and gain qualifications.
  • Works with a number of other key partners and agencies to ensure best service is delivered. 

Sorted

  • Delivers Sexual Health advice, support and guidance to young people aged 13+ years living in S14, and surrounding area.
  • Contraceptive advice and demonstrations, condoms, pregnancy testing, Chlamydia Screening, one to one support.
  • Emergency contraception available.
  • Nurses and Substance Misuse worker available.
  • Project work.
  • We operate a free and confidential service.
  • We also offer other advice, support on a wide range of Health, Safety and Well Being issues, for example, smoking cessation, bullying, drug and alcohol dependency, family and school issues, etc.
  • Opens 2 evenings per week.
  • Works with a number of other key partners and agencies to ensure best service is delivered.
